How Can Traffic in Weimar Be Improved?
Students will be looking for answers to this question during an international workshop from 8 to 12 July. Students from seven different countries have been invited to rethink urban transport in Weimar at the »City & Traffic« workshop at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The results will be presented as part of »summaery2024« on Friday, 12 July, from 3 to 4.30 pm in Schwanseestraße 13.
During the workshop, participants from various disciplines, including Architecture, Traffic Planning and Environmental Engineering, will be looking at specific traffic situations in Weimar, including: Goetheplatz with its high traffic volume of buses, cars, pedestrians and cyclists; Humboldtstraße with its complicated intersection; and August-Frölich-Platz with its confusing pedestrian crossing. The groups have been asked to analyse the current traffic situation, identify shortcomings, and contribute ideas for improvement. The primary focus should be on road safety and striking the right balance between the various requirements for the roads.

Media representatives and interested visitors are invited to discover participants’ ideas and to discover new perspectives on familiar infrastructure. City representatives will also be in attendance. There will also be opportunities to follow student interviews and site visits over the course of the week.
About the Workshop
The »City & Traffic« workshop takes place every year at one of the participating universities (Prague, Belgrade, Vienna, Krakow, Vilnius, Žilina, Maribor, Győr and Weimar). Now in its 27th year, the workshop has invited 35 students from seven of the participating universities to work together closely in Weimar. This will not only generate innovative ideas for local traffic, but will also foster professional and personal networks for the participants and their future careers. The project also supports European cooperation between the participating universities.
