Leipzig Book Fair: Student-run publishing house LUCIA Verlag showcases publications from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
From 21 to 24 March 2024, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be represented at the Leipzig Book Fair with a booth in the Art Colleges section. This year’s theme: »Even more reading, even more writing. Neues Schreiben – neues Lesen.« Alongside numerous interactive projects available for exploration at the booth, LUCIA Verlag will also be presenting 16 publications. The books published by the student-run publishing house reflect the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of the various university departments – from art and design to media studies and architecture.
Launched as a project in 2014, the LUCIA Verlag is now a permanent fixture among the student initiatives of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, with its members recognised as knowledgeable contacts who can help with publishing books and magazines.
The publishing house is named in honour of Lucia Moholy, a publicist, photographer and documentarian. As the wife of László Moholy-Nagy, she resided with him in Weimar and actively contributed to the Bauhaus. In his shadow, she did important work not only for him but also for the other Bauhaus artists. Lucia Moholy made a significant contribution to publicising the artistic ideas and content of the Bauhaus school, as her photographs continue to shape our image of the Bauhaus today.
LUCIA Verlag will be showcasing a wide range of publications at the Leipzig Book Fair, ranging from »Die Gemüseinsel« (»The Vegetable Island«), a children’s book on the subject of nutrition, to »Auf dem Weg zum Erinnerungsort« (»On the Way to a Place of Remembrance«), featuring essays on buildings associated with the Nazi medical bureaucracy in Weimar, to the feminist handbook »Zugeben, es ist nicht gerade einfach« (»Admit It, It’s Not Exactly Easy«).
Visitors to the fair can also look forward to a discussion with Katrin Richter, author of the book »Else’s Story«, from 2 to 3 pm on 22 March 2024. This book was also published by LUCIA Verlag and tells the story of Else Goldschmidt, the world’s first woman to work as a stockbroker.
