What Might the Future Look Like for Rural Areas in Europe? EU Expert Exchange

»From Vision to Action: Co-Creating Rural Futures« – experts from the European Commission, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the »stiftung baukultur thüringen« and the Bauhaus4EU Network will be meeting in Brussels on 25 June 2024 to discuss shaping rural areas and developing potential concepts. The aim of the event is to launch a collaborative process for the development of rural areas in cooperation with European regions in order to influence European policy decisions related to the 10th general EU programme.

30 Years B-A-D in pictures

The Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar celebrated its 30th anniversary with an evening party on Friday, 7 June 2024. Numerous alumni, former teaching staff and current students came together in the so-called Produktdesigner-Hof (Product Designer Courtyard) behind the Van de Velde Building. We look back on an evening full of (re)encounters, inspiring conversations and lots of fun. Visual Communication alumnus Jannis Uffrecht captured the best moments in pictures.

»Campus Pride Week« Celebrates Sexual and Gender Diversity at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

The third »Campus Pride Week« will be held from Monday, 17 June to Sunday, 23 June at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and will mark the occasion of »Christopher Street Day (CSD) Weimar« (22 June). The aim of the week is to highlight sexual and gender diversity at the university and to stand up against marginalisation and discrimination.

Betonkanus th-Rex und CEM-Rex sind startbereit

Am Mittwoch, 5. Juni, wurden die Weimarer Betonkanus im Schwanseebad öffentlich getauft und erstmals zu Wasser gelassen. Nach erfolgreicher Testfahrt bereiten sich die studentischen Teams nun auf die Betonkanuregatta am 14. und 15. Juni in Brandenburg an der Havel vor. Unter dem Motto »KANUSAURUS – Aufbruch in ein neues Betonzeitalter« wollen Sie die Jury nicht nur im sportlichen Wettkampf, sondern auch mit Kreativität und Konstruktionstalent überzeugen.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Celebrates Night of Writing’s Tenth Anniversary

Each year in June, those interested in writing come together in the University Library to talk with experts about research, reading experiences, and writer’s block. With a new name and fresh design, this year’s »Night of Writing« is looking back at the past ten years and over 300 events. The tenth Night of Writing at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be held on 13 June from 6 pm to midnight under the slogan »Rewind« and will focus on failure as part of the writing process. The event us free of charge and university members and guests are warmly invited to join.

Am 11. Juni 2024 lädt das International Heritage Centre (IHZ) zu einem Vortrag von Dr. des. Zsófia Kelm, wissenschaftliche Volontärin im Mies van der Rohe Haus in Berlin, mit anschließender Diskussion ein. Die von Prof. Dr. Jasper Cepl, Professur Theorie und Geschichte der modernen Architektur an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, moderierte Veranstaltung findet statt im Rahmen der Reihe »Debating Heritage«.

Concrete Canoe Regatta 2024: Weimar Students Extend Invitation to Boat Launch

The inaugural concrete canoes of Weimar made their début at the regatta event in Heilbronn in 1994. Back then, the student teams from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar had not yet secured a spot on the winners’ podium, but their success has steadily grown over the past three decades. In 2024, a boat crafted from recycled concrete will head to the starting line in competition for the first time. There will be a public test run of the concrete watercraft at 1.30 pm on Wednesday, 5 June, on Schwanseebad Weimar.

Teaching Award 2024: Three out of six Teaching Awards go to outstanding Bauhaus.Modules

On Wednesday, 29 May 2024, the Tag des Lehrens und Lernens (Teaching and Learning Day, TLL) took place for the sixth time at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. This year, the event was held in cooperation with Hochschule Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences for the first time. Students, doctoral candidates, faculty and staff from both universities gathered under the slogan »Stadt Land Lehre – in Freiheit und Demokratie« (»City, Country, Teaching – in Freedom and Democracy«) to explore ways that teaching and learning at Thuringian universities can be made fit for the future. A highlight of the event was the presentation of this year’s Teaching Awards by the Student Government.

Architekturstudierende beteiligen sich an den Sommerkonzerten im Kloster Volkenroda

Vom 14. bis 16. Juni 2024 findet im Kloster Volkenroda das Festival »Kommmunikationsverstärker« statt, das sich thematisch mit dem Zusammenspiel und Wechselwirkungen von Musik und Architektur beschäftigt. In diesem Kontext kommen während der diesjährigen Sommerkonzerte Architekturstudierende der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar mit Musiker*innen zusammen. So führen Musiker*innen des Leipziger Gewandhausorchesters am 15. Juni um 17 Uhr, ein Improvisationskonzert auf, zu dem die Musiker*innen von Studierendenarbeiten inspiriert werden. Auch das Bühnenbild und das Wegeleitsystem werden von Studierenden entwickelt, aufgebaut und betreut.

Media Studies Conference »Nothing Matters« Explores Connections Between Non-Things, Non-Places and Non-Relationships

From 13 to 15 July 2024, the international conference in the Department of Media Studies at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Faculty of Media will focus on the materiality of nothingness. Scientists from Germany, the USA, the UK and the Netherlands will look at how nothingness materialises in media formats such as film, literature and games, as well as the practices that give rise to nothingness in the first place.

»Danke, dass ihr dabei wart!«: Bilder des Aktionstags »Weimar zusammen« der Initiative Weltoffenes Thüringen

Am 18. Mai hatte die Initiative Weltoffenes Thüringen landesweit zu Aktionen aufgerufen, um zu zeigen, dass die Mehrheit der Menschen im Land für Demokratie, Rechtsstaatlichkeit und Weltoffenheit steht. In Weimar fand der Aktionstag unter dem Motto »Weimar zusammen« statt, an dem sich viele Bürger*innen der Stadt mit selbst gemachten Schildern und Plakaten beteiligten.

Engineer, Author, Role Model – Roma Agrawal to Give Lecture in Weimar on 30 May

Civil engineer Roma Agrawal became famous for her work on Western Europe’s highest skyscraper, London’s »The Shard«. Originally from India, Agrawal was born with a gift for maths and science and has, in recent years, discovered a new passion: Communications. Through TEDx talks, books and television, she is generating enthusiasm for engineering and technology. On Thursday, 30 May 2024 at 5 pm, Agrawal will be giving a lecture open to the public at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. All those interested in »How a nail built the world« are warmly invited to attend the lecture at Marienstraße 13 Lecture Hall A. The talk will be held in English.

Auf der ersten von zwei öffentlichen Konferenzen im Rahmen des Bauhaus.Moduls »Radikale Fürsorge durch Transformative Justice« kommen am 25. Mai Seminar-Teilnehmer*innen mit Expert*innen ins Gespräch. Zu den Vorträgen, Diskussionen, Workshops und »Küchentischgesprächen« sind Interessierte herzlich eingeladen. Inhaltlich widmen sich beide Konferenzen der Einführung in Transformative Gerechtigkeit, Abolutionismus, der Kritik an Abschiebegefängnissen, Psychatriekritik und Awarenessarbeit. Die Teilnahme ist kostenlos.
