Salsa Film Festival: Media Art and Design Students Organise Festival for Dialogue-Free Films
From 9 to 11 November 2023, a unique international short film festival will take place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar: only films that work without dialogue and language barriers will be shown. From a total of 2,256 submissions from 118 countries, 67 works were selected to be shown over three days of the festival.
»Our aim is to present creative films without dialogue from all over the world and to show them over three inspiring days in the Audimax of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar,« describe the initiators of the event, Sahar Darvishzadeh and Salman Vakili. »We want to open a door to a world of cinema in which people of all ages and cultures can experience and enjoy films without having to rely on language.«
The films on show speak a universal (visual) language and fit seamlessly into an artistic space that enables integration and cultural exchange where language skills are not a barrier.
The Salsa Film Festival has awarded a total of five prizes. The renowned jurors Dr. Simon Frisch, Prof. Burkhart von Scheven and Norbert Leschern will select the winners of the awards for best animation, best feature film, best documentary and best children's film. A youth jury consisting of young film lovers will select a fifth award winner, who will be honoured with a certificate. The aim is to give young cineastes the opportunity to exchange opinions and enjoy films in a friendly environment.
Participation in the festival is free of charge.
The programme will be enhanced by the workshop »Ganz großes Kino – die Tücken und Freuden auf dem Weg zum ersten Film«. Interested parties can register for the event on Wednesday, 24 November 2023, 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., on the following website: https://cloud.bau-ha.us/apps/forms/s/ccxXAJpa6BS9oXAH2AWrP7Tj
