Neues Handbuch Stadtsoziologie erschienen

Mit dem neu erschienenen Handbuch Stadtsoziologie legt Prof. Frank Eckardt, Professor für Sozialwissenschaftliche Stadtforschung an der Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar eine umfassend aktualisierte Bestandsaufnahme der deutschsprachigen und internationalen Stadtsoziologie vor. Das Werk erscheint im Verlag Springer VS und bietet einen breiten Überblick über zentrale Themen, theoretische Ansätze und aktuelle Herausforderungen urbaner Gesellschaften.

Städte sind zentrale Orte gesellschaftlicher Aushandlung: Hier manifestieren sich soziale Konflikte ebenso wie Kooperation, kulturelle Vielfalt und politische Transformationen. Das neue Handbuch widmet sich den sozialen, politischen und räumlichen Dynamiken urbanen Lebens und beleuchtet Themen wie Wohnen, Mobilität, Bildung, Migration, Rechtsextremismus, Armut, Segregation, Kriminalität, Nachbarschaft und Kultur aus stadtsoziologischer Perspektive.

Darüber hinaus diskutiert die Publikation aktuelle theoretische Entwicklungen und internationale Forschungsdebatten – darunter postkoloniale Perspektiven, Urban Governance, Multikulturalität sowie Ansätze des Southern Urbanism. Die theoretischen Grundlagen reichen von klassischen Positionen etwa von Max Weber, Georg Simmel und Karl Marx bis hin zu zeitgenössischen Referenzen wie Henri Lefebvre, Pierre Bourdieu und Richard Sennett.

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Rolle der Stadtforschung im Kontext sozial-ökologischer Transformationen. Das Handbuch stellt Bezüge zu feministischen Stadtansätzen, Postwachstumsdebatten sowie Konzepten wie der Sharing City oder der sorgenden Stadt her und diskutiert unterschiedliche Nachhaltigkeitsdiskurse.

Mit der Neuauflage bietet das Handbuch Stadtsoziologie einen aktuellen State of the Art der Forschung und richtet sich an Wissenschaftler*innen, Studierende sowie Akteur*innen aus Stadtplanung, Politik und Verwaltung.
