Gold Instead of Brown & Oral Stories of the Resistance: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Takes Part on 8 May
On 8 May it’s time again for »Gold statt Braun – für ein weltoffenes Thüringen« (Gold Instead of Brown – For an Open-Minded Thuringia). The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is once again taking part in the annual national »Aktionstag« and sending a visible sign for diversity, respect, and tolerance on the 80th anniversary of the liberation from National Socialism.
Gold Posters Available to Take Away
For anyone who doesn’t wish to hang up an emergency blanket, gold posters and buttons can be picked up at the following campus locations starting on 7 May:
- Amalienstraße 13 (ground floor/passageway)
- Bauhaus.Atelier
- Coudraystraße 13A (Sprachenzentrum | Centre for Language and Cultural Learning)
Posters and buttons can be picked up during regular opening hours. The balcony and courtyard of the Main Building will again be painted gold to raise awareness for the campaign.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will also be supporting another project launching on 8 May: The audio-narrative »Widerstand. Hörgeschichten aus Thüringen 1939–1945« history project, produced by the Buchenwald Memorial and Mittelbau-Dora Memorial Foundation and the Museum of Forced Labor Under National Socialism in Weimar.
The project centres around twelve audio stories from Thuringia that recount acts of resistance, solidarity, and humanity during the Second World War. The stories can be accessed via QR code using a smartphone and through installations in Weimar and Nordhausen. The audio-narrative and technical implementation is provided by the »FUNKHAUS ost« agency in Weimar. The project is supplemented by artistic projects in public spaces, developed by the Weimar-based artist Anke Heelemann. Her artistic interventions are designed to draw people’s attention to the audio stories in unexpected everyday situations.
The audio stories will also be directly accessible via QR code at the University Library and Bauhausstraße 11.
