Recap: Career Networking Fair Brings Students and Businesses Together
From 4 to 13 May, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar hosted the Bauhaus Career Festival for the first time. The highlight of the Festival was the career networking fair, which was held in the Mensa am Park on 13 May 2026. Nearly 40 businesses from various industries were at the event to engage in conversations with students and graduates.
The new event series offered students and graduates a broad range of opportunities, including individual coaching, digital matching, and the annual career networking fair, to help prepare them for starting a career and establishing contacts with potential employers. The event focussed on how to make the transition from studying to a career in a practical and accessible way and through directly interacting with businesses and institutions.
From 10 am to 3 pm, the Fair provided the opportunity to learn about internships, part-time student jobs, starting a career, and various career paths in an informal setting. Businesses from the following sectors were especially well-represented: Architecture and urban planning, construction and civil engineering, and infrastructure and technical planning. Furthermore, students from other programmes were invited to learn about student employment opportunities at a corner specifically set up for learning about mini jobs. The initiative was developed together with the city of Weimar’s »Wirtschaftsförderung« (economic development office).

Special attention was given to international students and graduates. The Festival aimed specifically at facilitating access to the German job market and to alleviate uncertainties about the application process. In doing this, the event series built upon the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s international approach while simultaneously strengthening the local job market.
The Festival highlighted the importance of personal encounters when it comes to successfully starting a career. Numerous conversations took place spontaneously right at the booths and during the workshops. For students, the events offered opportunities to get to know companies early on, ask questions, and explore career prospects.
