»can’t stop won’t stop« – Episode 03 of the year-long »POWER HOUSE« exhibition starts on 29 June
While Episode 02 explores the topics of localisation, belonging and identification within the context of living, Episode 03 entitled »can’t stop won’t stop« examines aspects of settling down, movement and the fleeting nature of our lives. The third part of the exhibition series is being curated by »marke.6« student initiative and marks the halfway point in the year-long »POWER HOUSE« programme with which the »nova space« university gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is currently a guest at the Schiller-Museum.
Our lives are characterised by constant movement, dynamics, mobility, fleetingness: a rushed everyday life, (waiting for) transport, exhaustion after work, time limitations. We constantly have to adapt to new circumstances, conditions and expectations. Not infrequently this can prompt a sense of inner turmoil that accompanies many of us throughout our lives and leads us to question our own sense of belonging, the concept of Heimat, and our personal and professional futures.
»can’t stop won’t stop« considers whether it is even possible to settle down, or rather whether we remain in a constant state of transition – both internally and externally. A collective loss of identity occurs due to this state in which we are all very much alike – equally lonely, uniform and silent. Some of the works displayed deal with this loss: our ambivalent relationships with our homeland and how these influence our understanding of identity and belonging. Other exhibits are dedicated to the associated »non-places«; places of transition that we move through as anonymous passengers without interacting with our fellow travellers.
All interested parties are warmly invited to the opening of Episode 03 at 6 pm on Thursday, 29 June 2023 at the Schiller-Museum, by which time the exhibition space will once again have been transformed.
Background:
In the 100th year since the first Bauhaus exhibition, the »nova space« university gallery of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will occupy the exhibition rooms of the Schiller-Museum Weimar until the end of the year. In 2023, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar has dedicated its annual programme to the topic of living, with a focus on the Weimar State Bauhaus. The foundation explores the future of housing and coexistence, invites visitors to engage with sustainable buildings, discusses topics such as displacement and gentrification, and relates these to historical forms of housing.
