Bauhaus goes Leipzig: Studierende entwerfen neuen Buchmessestand

Holz, Textil und Licht bilden die Konstruktion, Typografie die erzählerische Struktur. Am Ende steht das gemeinsame Ziel: Die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar auf der Buchmesse 2026 in Leipzig. Mit dieser Mission starteten 15 Studierende ins Wintersemester 2025/26. Unter wissenschaftlicher Leitung von Prof. Dr. Michael Hermann und Torsten Müller, Professur für Konstruktives Entwerfen und Tragwerkslehre, entstanden im Rahmen des interdisziplinären Bauhaus-Moduls »typotopie« fünf experimentelle Entwürfe. Umgesetzt wird ein Konzept der Studierenden Petter Bolstad, Nina Siegle und Ngoc Truc Phuong Nguyen.

Die Leipziger Buchmesse ist ein Publikumsmagnet und die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar seit vielen Jahren ein fester Bestandteil davon. Dabei geht es um weit mehr als Literatur: Die Messe bietet der Universität einen Rahmen, um sich so zu präsentieren, wie sie ist: Kreativ, unkonventionell, verantwortungsbewusst und menschlich. Experimentieren ausdrücklich erlaubt. Dies zeigt sich auch im Entstehungsprozess des einzigartigen Messestandes, welcher seit 2009 von Studierenden verschiedener Disziplinen entworfen und gebaut wird. 

Im Wintersemester 2025/26 experimentierte eine Gruppe internationaler Studierender mit Raum, Struktur, Material, Licht und Inszenierung. Gesucht wurden Ideen, die ressourcenschonend umgesetzt werden können und mehr sind als eine Ausstellungsfläche – sie sollten lesbar, sprechend, erlebbar sein. Dafür wurden die Teilnehmenden in handwerklichen Vorkursen geschult: Gemeinsam erprobten die Studierenden materialsparende leichte Konstruktionen in Form von Stab-, Faltwerken und Membranen. Die Lichtkünstlerin Cornelia Erdmann unterstütze bei der Konzeption des Messestandes. Im Rahmen einer Exkursion zur Leipziger Grassimesse erhielten sie zudem Einblick in verschiedene Präsentationsformen. Mitte Januar pitchten die studentischen Teams ihre Ideen, überzeugen konnte der Entwurf von Petter Bolstad, Nina Siegle und Ngoc Truc Phuong Nguyen.

Zero-Waste-Prinzip: Ein Messestand aus Birkensperrholz

Mit einem innovativen Konstruktionsansatz demonstriert die Hochschule 2026, wie sich Materialeffizienz und gestalterischer Anspruch verbinden lassen: Sperrholzplatten werden mithilfe präziser Wasserstrahltechnik so zugeschnitten, dass kongruente Rahmen entstehen und der Verschnitt auf ein Minimum reduziert wird. Aneinandergereiht formen diese Elemente eine gekrümmte Raumstruktur mit optimierter Tragwirkung. Auf dem Messestand fügen sich die Rahmen zu einer markanten bogenförmigen Wand sowie zu einem scheinbar schwebenden, trapezförmigen Dach. Besonderes Merkmal der Konstruktion ist ihre vollständige Demontierbarkeit – sämtliche Bauteile können mehrfach verwendet werden und leisten damit einen konkreten Beitrag zu ressourcenschonendem Bauen.

Im Rahmen des Moduls Typotopie+ wird der Entwurf des Messestandes aktuell überarbeitet und anschließend als Prototyp im Maßstab 1:2 gebaut. Die Struktur wurde digital konstruiert und in den Fertigungsprozess überführt. Das Ergebnis ist vom 19. bis 22. März auf dem Messegelände in Leipzig zu sehen. Dort präsentiert die Hochschule ausgewählte Projekte und Forschungsbeiträge rund um das Thema Nachhaltigkeit.

Die Veranstaltung stand im Rahmen der »Bauhaus.Module« allen Bachelor- und Masterstudierenden der Fakultäten Architektur und Urbanistik, Bau- und Umweltingenieurwissenschaften, Kunst und Gestaltung sowie Medien offen.
