A wave of willingness to help has been felt within the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in recent days - many students and staff members want to engage themselves for the people in Ukraine. Their sympathy and offers of help also go to those Ukrainians who are currently in Weimar and have to fear for the lives of their relatives and friends.
On Monday, 28 February 2022, university members met in various rounds of consultation to consider together what ad hoc help is most urgently needed where and how Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as an institution can provide concrete support.
The first step was to listen to the people affected and ask them about their most important needs at the moment. They explained that relief supplies and financial support are most needed in Ukraine, as well as psychological counselling and, in the near future, accommodation for Ukrainians who were forced to flee. They also discussed how, for example, deadlines for graduation can be handled generously so that the current situation does not endanger the success of the studies. In the short term, an appeal for donations for an emergency aid fund is to be created in the next few days to help students from Ukraine studying at our university who are in financial distress.
Information on this will soon be available from University Communications on its own Ukraine Aid website, which will serve as a platform to bundle the most important offers of help and opportunities to get involved. In order to improve communication and networking among each other, the message board category »Aid for Ukraine« has been set up. In this area, actions can be communicated and information shared.
