In a press release on March 17, 2022, the city of Weimar urgently asked the people of Weimar to provide housing to accommodate more refugees from Ukraine:
City continues to seek housing for refugees
Housing is still urgently needed for the Ukrainian refugees arriving in Weimar in the coming days and weeks. »We are dependent on help from the citizenry if we want to accommodate the arrivals in a dignified manner over a longer period of time,« emphasized Lord Mayor Peter Kleine. »Currently, more than 400 Ukrainians are already officially registered with us. The actual number is likely to be significantly higher. We expect about 25 new arrivals per day. Therefore, we are very grateful for every additional apartment or room offered, because we won't be able to handle it alone.«
In parallel, the city is setting up large temporary shelters to house the war refugees for an initial period, in case the city's immediately available housing options and private offers are not sufficient.
Citizens who can provide living space for the accommodation, please contact the Ukraine Hotline of the city administration at Tel. +49 3643 / 762-622. Offering living space is also possible online via the following form:
https://thavelp.thueringen.de/thavelp/portal/zs/270778/start?pe=2084
Ideally, the following criteria should be met for the living space:
Notes:
Currently, there is no information on the part of the federal/state government as to whether corresponding expense allowances can be paid when using private accommodations (without a rental agreement). Therefore, the living space should, at least for the time being, be able to be provided free of charge.
Boarding: After registration with the Foreigners' Registration Office, persons receive benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act. Through these, the catering of the persons themselves can be ensured. The city is striving for a quick registration of all persons.
The willingness to help in Weimar is great; numerous calls and offers of help are registered daily. Therefore, it is not always possible to respond promptly to every offer. For this, we ask for your understanding.
