Zahl 30 als Symbol für das Namensjubiläum der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

With its Faculty of Art and Design, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar ranks among the most renowned universities in the world. Nearly 800 students have access to the full range of programmes offered by an academy of art. The project-based course of study is based on the Weimar Model and embodies the integration of theory and practice, science and experimentation. It is as committed to the tradition of the State Bauhaus as it is to critically reflecting on and reinterpreting that tradition for the present – an approach Lucius Burckhardt had already called for, with remarkable foresight, when the Faculty was founded. We understand art and design as independent forms of research and knowledge that shape societies.

We support interdisciplinarity and collaboration. In addition to our 20 professorships, we have over 30 workshops, studios, and labs that encourage the development of innovative concepts using analogue, digital, and hybrid techniques. Our programmes range from graphic design and painting to photography and media art, film, sound, animation, coding, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence.

A strong focus on design science and artistic research runs through all degree programmes, culminating in the distinguished Ph.D. in »Art and Design«.
