Quality assurance in research and the arts
Our guiding principle
“Scholarly work is based on fundamental principles that are the same in all countries and across all academic disciplines. Foremost among these is honesty towards oneself and others.” (Memorandum of the German Research Foundation (DFG) “Ensuring Good Scholarly Practice”, p. 13)
Bauhaus University Weimar is committed to upholding standards of scientific and artistic quality.
Confidential advisors
The Senate appoints one representative (ombudsperson) for matters relating to good academic and artistic practice. They act as points of contact for members of the university community regarding academic or artistic misconduct. The DFG’s ombudsperson acts as their deputy.
Their term of office is three years.

Articles of Association
"Academic integrity and adherence to the principles of good academic practice are indispensable prerequisites for academic work. At the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, with its diverse, equal and mutually complementary disciplinary cultures, these obligations apply equally to artistic work as well as to creative and design work. (...) These Statutes serve as a guideline for all members and affiliates of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. They are also based on universally applicable principles. Foremost among these is honesty towards oneself and others. It is both an ethical standard and the foundation for the rules of academic professionalism and artistic freedom, which vary from discipline to discipline. (...) The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is fully committed to these fundamental principles."
Transparency
Our guiding principle
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is committed to transparency in academia. To achieve this aim, the university has, for several years, been publishing details of all research projects worth 100,000 euros or more on its website.
Reports
In accordance with the guidelines, an annual report on all ongoing research projects will be published on this website from 2017 onwards and will be available to the public.
The report includes all externally funded research projects that were active in the previous year. The de minimis threshold is 5,000 euros. Projects below this threshold are reported in summary form. The funding amounts stated refer to the grants awarded for the entire duration of the respective project.
A database of all third-party-funded projects at Thuringian universities can be found on the website of the Thuringian Conference of University Presidents:

Guidelines
In addition, ‘Guidelines on Transparency in Science and Research’ were drawn up in collaboration with all Thuringian universities and adopted by the Thuringian State Rectors’ Conference on 30 March 2017.
Further information can be found on the website of the Thuringian State Presidents’ Conference.
Research Information System
Project
A project on IT-supported research reporting has been running in Thuringia since 2018, with the aim of driving forward digitalisation within university administrations. The Bauhaus University Weimar has taken the lead on this initiative. The aim of the project is to introduce research information systems (RIS) at Thuringian universities and to establish a Thuringia-wide research and innovation platform.

Affiliation Policy
Principle
One of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s top priorities is to ensure that every publication produced by the university can be clearly attributed to it, regardless of the motivation behind its creation. This enhances not only the reputation and visibility of the institution, but also that of its researchers. These affiliation guidelines for research-related publications set out measures to achieve these objectives.
