Research that shapes the future

At the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, we combine academic excellence with experimental thinking. Basic and applied research meet creative, artistic and unconventional forms of research – interdisciplinary, practice-oriented and closely linked to teaching. We view research as an open, dialogical process that brings together different forms of knowledge and assumes social responsibility.

The focus is on three cross-faculty research areas:

  • The study, development and design of environments
  • New technologies and their societal dimensions
  • Resilience and essential services

From artificial intelligence through sustainable planning and construction to processes of social transformation, our researchers work together to address the questions of tomorrow. The focus is also on the impacts of climate change, the creation of liveable and equitable spaces, the responsible use of resources, and the development of resilient infrastructure and communities.
