New Environmental Officer at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

Steven Mac Nelly is the new central contact person for sustainability issues at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Since 1 September 2022, he has been responsible for, among other things, assessing the energy footprint of university buildings.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar created the position of Environmental Officer to address, coordinate and develop further measures for environmental protection and sustainability across all university faculties. Steven Mac Nelly will be working with the relevant university committees and will be involved at the state level with the »Klimaneutrale Landesverwaltung 2030« initiative. Together with the Climate Officer, the Hazardous Substances Officer and the Service Centre for Facility Management, Mac Nelly will reconceptualising the environmental and energy management at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar with the goal of reducing CO2 emissions. This will be done in particular through building efficiency measures regarding energy and heat supply. Furthermore, Steven Mac Nelly is responsible for updating and developing an environmental report. He also acts as deputy for the Director of the Service Centre for Security Management,

The environmental report is an important milestone for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on its path to becoming an environmentally friendly university. Environmental and sustainability issues are of key importance to all member groups and everyone working at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. The first environmental report was compiled in 2019 by Climate Officer Prof. Dr. Eckhard Kraft, Chair of Biotechnology in Resources Management, together with the Climate Working Group. Subsequent environmental reports are planned for publication every two years. The current priority is reducing the CO2 emissions of university buildings (heating, cooling).

Steven Mac Nelly was born in Suhl in 1989. He studied mechanical engineering with a focus on plastics technology at the Dualen Hochschule Gera-Eisenach and the TU Ilmenau. After graduation, he worked as an engineer and energy management officer in the chemical industry.

Steven Mac Nelly can be reached by phone at +49 (0) 36 43 / 58 12 20 and by e-mail at steven.mac.nelly[at]uni-weimar.de. His office is located at Bauhausstraße 7b.
