Dr. Kelema Moses as a guest at the Institute for European Urban Studies

A round table with a discussion on the topic of »Decentering Knowledge Production and the State of Urban and Architectural Theory« will take place on Wednesday, 6 July 2022. The questions addressed will include: How inclusive or exclusive are our current educational and scientific environments? How can more pluralistic and inclusive knowledge production and practice be achieved in the fields of architecture and urban design? How might this influence teaching and research at the Institute for European Urban Studies? The event will take place at 6:30–7:30 pm on 6 July in Room 005 and the garden at IfEU (Belvederer Allee 5).

At 4 pm on Friday, 15 July 2022, Dr. Kelema Moses will share insights into her latest research in a presentation entitled »Architecture, Spatial Justice, and U.S. Colonialism in the Pacific«. The talk in the library lounge will look at a residential development in Kaka’ako, Hawaii. This land reclamation project is being implemented on filled land near the relatively flat shoreline. 

Interested parties are warmly invited to attend these two events, both of which will be held in English.

Kelema Lee Moses (PhD) is an assistant professor of urban studies and planning at the University of California, San Diego. She completed her Master’s degree and doctorate in art history at Pennsylvania State University, She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in art history and politics from the University of Virginia. Her research interests include architectural and urban history; Pacific Island studies; indigenous futurities; climate justice; environmental studies; transnational mobility; colonialism; decolonial theory and politics.
