Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Publishes First Environmental Report
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s first environmental report for the 2019 reporting year has now been made available to the public.
Environmental protection and climate protection are already a top priority at the university. In future, climate neutrality and sustainability are to be a matter of course as central elements. »This climate report represents an important milestone for the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on its way to becoming a climate-sensitive and environmentally-friendly university,« explains the university’s Interim President, Prof. Jutta Emes.
The 34-page environmental report focuses specifically on the university’s environmental performance in the fields of mobility and electricity, heating energy, waste, drinking water and waste water, materials and procurement as well as the carbon footprint. In addition, countless tables and diagrams illustrate the current state of climate protection. Various research and teaching activities addressing issues relating to the climate and environment have been compiled as examples and thus represent an excerpt of the diverse research work and courses offered at the university. The final chapter provides an outlook of further contributions to sustainability and proposes six selected fields of action (including mobility and campus design) for more intensive follow-up. A bibliography completes the report and enables further exploration of the topic.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eckhard Kraft, who holds the professorship for biotechnology in resource management and also serves as the university’s climate officer, prepared the report in collaboration with the professorship’s research associate, Gregor Biastoch. It was unanimously accepted by the Senate.
»In order to be seen as a credible ambassador of solutions, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar must strive for climate neutrality and the sensible, sustainable use of resources transparently. A reliable status report is needed for this,« explains Prof. Kraft. These topics will be developed further based on the data collected and presented in the 2019 environmental report that has now been published. The environmental report for 2020/21 is due to be published in the first half of 2023.
