Johannes Kiesel, a Bauhaus-Universität Weimar scientist from the Webis Group (Web Technology and Information Systems), has won the »FAIRest Dataset« award. Kiesel’s submission was selected as the dataset that best met the FAIR principles: findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.
A TU Ilmenau research team was also a winner in the »FAIRest Dataset« and both winners took home the €2000 prize provided by the Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management for the first time on 29 July 2020.
This award, the only one of its kind on the German higher education scene, is provided by the Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management to boost researchers’ awareness of how to handle research data, clarify the goals and requirements of good data management, and improve the subsequent use of research data. The network includes Thuringia's four universities in Erfurt, Ilmenau, Jena and Weimar. It is funded by the four universities and the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society.
The four points of contact provide researchers from all of Thuringia’s universities with expert advice and training in research data management, and together they organise the annual Thuringian RDM days, where the winners of the »FAIRest Dataset« award are recognised. The virtual award ceremony will be held on 29 June at the »FAIR Together« launch event, beginning at 1 pm at the event's website. The event is being held online due to the restrictions imposed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Information on the »FAIRest Dataset« award, the live-streamed award ceremony, the Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management and the RDM days can be found at www.forschungsdaten-thueringen.de.
