Beyond the Paper

Beyond the Paper?

What impact can your research have - beyond publication?

Are you working on a research topic and wondering how it could lead to tangible pathways for application? In the half-day program »Beyond the Paper?«, we explore together how scientific results can be translated into real-world scenarios — whether through collaboration with practice partners, follow-up projects, or as a starting point for new career directions.

What to expect:

The event is primarily aimed at academic and artistic staff, doctoral researchers and professors who want to explore how their research can create impact beyond publication. In four practice-oriented workshops, speakers will introduce methods and approaches to help derive concrete next steps — from AI-supported use cases and strategic positioning using the Technology Readiness Level (TRL), to analyzing innovation potential and personal career perspectives. A concluding keynote talk will complement the program with practical insights and experiences from the field of knowledge transfer.

Register now! Rethink research. Create impact.

How can scientific insights be translated into concrete applications? The half-day format “Beyond the Paper?” on May 27, 2026 offers space to turn research results into practice-oriented scenarios. Workshops can be selected individually, and participants are welcome to bring in their own projects.

» Registration deadline: May 21, 2026

Program

You can select workshops individually and are not required to attend the entire program. There is also the opportunity to bring in your own research projects and questions and further develop them within the workshops. Alternatively, participants can work on exemplary case studies to test methods and content in a practical way.

The program is complemented by an impulse session as part of the TechTransferTalk »Bits & Bridges@Bauhaus«, fostering dialogue between research, application, and entrepreneurship. Time for exchange and interdisciplinary conversations is scheduled between sessions. Registration is required for participation

From 1:15 PM | Arrival

1:30 – 3:00 PM | Workshop A
Research in Practice: From Research to Real-World Applications Using AI and Creative Methods
How can concrete ideas for applications, services, or socially impactful solutions emerge from your research? In this workshop, participants will develop practice-oriented application scenarios based on scientific content using AI-supported creative methods and tools such as ChatGPT, Sora, or Perplexity. The central question is: “What can be done with my research?”. Structured ideation and visualization methods will be used to transform participants’ own research topics (or a provided prompt) into initial application scenarios—for collaborations, funding proposals, or potential spin-offs. Participants are encouraged to bring their own research topic. By the end of the workshop, they will have developed use cases, mockups, or application sketches, along with initial ideas for practical implementation.

Focus:
Developing concrete application scenarios from research approaches using AI and creative methods.

Content:
- Using AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Sora, Perplexity) for ideation and visualization
- Developing use cases, refining target groups and value propositions
- Creating initial scenarios/mockups for collaborations, funding proposals, or spin-offs

Speakers: Josephine Zorn (neudeli team), Julia Tschetwertak (Adaptou AEC GmbH)
Participants: max. 15
Location: Bauhausstraße 11, Seminar Room A

1:30 – 3:00 PM | Workshop B
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): Assessing Your Position and Identifying Next Development Steps
Where does your research वास्तव stand—and what is concretely needed to take the next step toward market application? In this workshop, participants will work with the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) as a strategic tool for self-assessment and further development of their technology and research outcomes. You will systematically assign your own project to a TRL stage and analyze which technical, organizational, and application-related steps are required to reach the next level of maturity. Building on this, the workshop highlights which types of funding, validation formats, and transfer or commercialization instruments are suitable at different stages of development.

Focus:
Realistically assessing your research, planning development steps strategically, and identifying suitable funding or transfer options.

Content:
- Introduction to the TRL model
- Positioning your own project within the TRL scale
- Gap analysis: What is needed to reach the next development stage?
- Exploring funding and follow-up options along different maturity levels

Speaker: Elias Flory (neudeli team)
Participants: max. 15
Location: Bauhausstraße 11, Seminar Room H

3:00 – 3:30 PM | Break

3:30 – 5:00 PM | Workshop C
Innovation Opportunity Snapshot: Identifying Innovation Potential
Does your research hold innovation potential—and if so, where exactly? In this interactive workshop, participants will develop a structured “Innovation Opportunity Snapshot” for their own research project. You will analyze which specific problem your research could solve, identify potential users or partners, and assess how your technology compares to existing solutions. The focus is on shifting perspective from scientific insight to applicability, demand, and value creation. Through guiding questions, short exercises, and optional AI-supported analysis, you will refine your unique positioning, formulate an initial unique selling proposition (USP), and identify meaningful next steps toward collaboration or a potential spin-off.

Focus:
Developing a clear market perspective on your research and systematically identifying innovation potential.

Content:
- Understanding problems from a user perspective (problem–solution fit)
- Competitive analysis (direct, indirect, substitutes)
- Clearly articulating unique value propositions
- Deriving an initial USP and defining next steps for transfer

Speakers: Dr. Charlene Wündsch (neudeli team), Julia Tschetwertak (Adaptou AEC GmbH)
Participants: max. 15

3:30 – 5:00 PM | Workshop D
Your Entrepreneurial Career – Positioning & Exploring Perspectives
“What role do I want to take within my academic environment—now and in the future?”
This workshop offers space to reflect on your academic work in relation to profile development, collaborations, and career perspectives. It addresses strategic visibility, hybrid career paths, and long-term development opportunities. The focus lies on how individual strengths, interests, and values can be aligned with the demands and opportunities within the academic system. Participants will gain impulses to better navigate different career options and clarify their own priorities—without pressure to decide, but as guidance for the next steps. (supported by Yes – Young Entrepreneurs in Science)

Focus:
Reflecting on your academic work and professional direction to derive realistic career perspectives.

Content:
- Academic careers vs. hybrid models
- Visibility and profile development
- Building collaborations
- Personal risk assessment
