The aim of this research project is the enhancement of the design process for small and medium size steel and steel-concrete composite railway bridges by the development of a simplified dynamic analysis concept and the composition of a guideline for the numerical modelling of respective structures.

An extended design concept for typical standard structures, that allows for a simplified handling of an increase of statically determined internal forces, stresses and deformations due to resonance with the wheel loads of passing high-speed trains, will be developed. One of the major tasks is the creation of tools for a simplified assessment of resonances which can also be used for speeds higher than 200 km/h. Furthermore the investigations will be focused on realistic assumptions for dynamic structural parameters of small and medium size bridges that should be taken into account within the design process. Such parameters are realistic damping values, stiffness contributions the ballast or rigid track systems, respectively.
