On Tuesday, 16th of June 2026, Niklas Hamann successfully defended his doctoral dissertation (with "summa cum laude").

The dissertation is entitled "Digitale Orthetik: Entwicklung und empirische Erprobung einer cyber-physikalischen Prozesskette zur patientenzentrierten Gestaltung und Validierung additiv gefertigter Charcot-Fuß-Orthesen" and explores the potential of innovative digital design and fabrication processes in the field of orthotics. The main field of development and investigation is the foot/ankle area, in particular diabetic foot syndrome and Charcot foot, which is treated using 3D-printed walking orthoses, including outsoles.
