The Professorship of Design Theory and Design Research was installed in 2016. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jan Willmann, novel approaches and methods in design science are developed and taught. A central focus is on contemporary design cultures, with particular emphasis on digital, materialistic, and epistemic perspectives and their embedding in larger cultural and historical contexts. The Bauhaus Design Laboratory (D–LAB) serves as the main working environment.
