At the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, the close connection between teaching and research creates a distinctive and contemporary profile. Within this, architectural and urban design as well as social sciences are at the center of reflecting of and dealing with the environment.
The close connection between architecture and urbanism characterizes the work at the faculty and promotes an interdisciplinary culture of study and exchange on addressing future issues of ecologically and socially sustainable development of architecture, city and landscape and their design qualities. The stimulating exchange is fostered by the environment of a small university with disciplines that are capable of discourse with each other and is based on joint work in the studio and workspace within the framework of project studies.
The faculty is nationally and internationally renowned for its outstanding competence in architectural design as well as for the specific planning and social science profile of its urban studies courses.
The research areas of heritage, sustainability and spatial justice are central to the faculty's profile and are closely linked to its teaching.
With its focus on heritage research and reflection of the recent heritage, the faculty already has a lot of expertise and can play a pioneering role towards a necessary culture of conversion and rethinking of existing buildings in architecture and urban planning. In combination with digital design methods, innovative constructions, material research and critical urban research, it also contributes significant impulses to current discourses on social and ecological sustainability.
