Project description

Bridging The Gap is a project set in the Heart of Petare, one of the largest and most dangerous Favelas in the world located in Caracas, Venezuela.

When we think about Favelas the terms marginalization, social exclusion, underprivileged education, dreadful security, poor housing, alarming health and awful transportation all come to mind. This project seeks to change this association. It solves the most crucial issues in Petare embracing its formal aesthetic and functional integrity.

To start, 3 multifunctional buildings will be inserted in certain analyzed sectors of Petare. Each floor will obtain a different function intended to tackle a recurring problem within the favela and the specific area it is placed in. Targeted local organizations and corporations who already have a meaningful impact within the region will each acquire the responsibility of a determined floor, to develop their work to its full potential. Nevertheless, the functions of a cable car station, security level and a green terrace will be preserved throughout all buildings.
Each building will be constructed with a basic core but will only be considered finished with the help of the community and organizations.

The long-term goal of this project is to continue to insert these buildings throughout Petare and later other Favelas, as a sort of acupuncture needle, providing solutions and alleviating these aches, so that all inhabitants can be provided with equal opportunities and fair living conditions.
