Project description

The aim of this master thesis was the design of an extensive building complex on the Seidel parking lot in Jena. According to the investors, at least as many parking spaces as before were to be created for this complex in addition to areas for office, laboratory and residential use. The aim was to attract companies from the bioscience sector, medical technology or the medical association to this area in combination with residential and parking space.

As part of a detailed analysis, the surrounding area was first examined for its compatibility with the planned project, both in terms of structural-design aspects as well as with regard to existing infrastructures and existing and possible new uses.

Finally, an ensemble of three building types was created, in which areas for office, laboratory and residential use are planned in addition to parking areas. All buildings are greened and a generous park landscape is planned on top of the parking garage, which, in height, as a park extension of the Seidelpark, picks up the motif of the Saale-Horizontale. The striking office tower with its roof terrace therefore looks like a lookout tower in the Saale-Horizontale.
The theme of bioscience was also implemented in the design in that, in addition to the green facades, the tower is rotated 90° in height and is thus reminiscent of a DNA helix. This also achieves a dynamic of the building, which supports its significance as a new landmark at the entrance to Jena.
