Project description

The Bridge Village project is a suspension bridge in which the pylons are not only the load-bearing element of the bridge, but also create living space on the river banks of the Main. On the bridge itself, between the rope construction, various public spaces and buildings are created with different cultural offerings such as event spaces, a café, a bicycle self-help workshop, experimental workshops, a Späti, a book kiosk, as well as terraces and green spaces to sit and linger. Through the coming together of these offers, the image of a Village is created.
With our design we would like to make a small part of the urban space available to everyone again and thereby counteract the social change that has taken place in the vicinity of the EZB in recent decades and has become highly commercialized.
The public cultural buildings in lightweight construction open up to the water and the bridge, and their structure makes a wide variety of uses conceivable.
The four different apartment types are designed for diverse living situations due to their modular structure and thus not only create attractive living space, but are also tailored to future requirements.
The facade of the residential buildings is made of sustainable and robust natural stone. The pylon is integrated into the double-skin façade and the cables are connected behind it to facilitate subsequent repair work.
