Tokyo Research Project (I)

Tokyo Research Project (I)

This teaching research project is founded on a presumed close connection between design and research methods for which the compilation, assessment and application of shared knowledge inform the design concepts for independent projects, their implementation and presentation. The assignment is based on the consideration of research approaches practiced at Japanese universities and architecture schools and current contributions to residential architecture in Japan. The project is organised around several interrelated teaching and research formats and contains a seminar in Weimar, an excursion to Japan, including a workshop in Tokyo, and is followed by a design studio module. The project is initially aimed at students on the M.Sc. Architecture course. Students on the B.Sc. Architecturecourse and other courses are also welcome, provided they meet certain criteria. It is particularly aimed at students who are working on a thesis related to this teaching research project or students who wish to prepare a topic for their dissertations.

The seminar is to prepare an excursion to Japan and a workshop at Waseda University Tokyo within the context of six thematic chapters. The results of the seminar will be shown for the first time during the "summaery" 2017 in Weimar, subsequently published and then presented and discussed again in Tokyo.
