Arrival and Orientation

You are accepted for one or more courses of the Bauhaus Summer School and "ready to go"? Wonderful! In the following, we will give you a few tips on how to get to Weimar and your first steps here.

In order to be ideally prepared for your stay in our beautiful cultural and university city, we will send you a "final information" approximately 4 weeks before the course starts. In this document you will find a summary of all important information for the start of the course (timetable, directions, contact information etc.). It is best to print or download this document so that you can have the "Summer School Timetable" at hand during your trip even without internet access.

 

Pre-arrival Checklist

  • Obtain visa (if needed)
  • Buy health and home insurance
  • Notify the Bauhaus Summer School team when you will arrive at summerschool@uni-weimar.de
  • Join the Facebook group for Summer School (from May)
  • Get packed: Don’t forget your travel documents, clothes (for warm and cold weather), adapter, LAN cable if necessary and bed linen (low budget)

Welcome to Weimar - Orientation day: t.b.c.

Welcome to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar! We invite you and all lecturers to the opening day of the Bauhaus Summer School. Get to know your fellow students and discover the city of Weimar together during the City Rallye. If you are just arriving today, we would be happy to welcome you at our information stand. From 5.30 pm on, it will be festive: Representatives of the city and the university will welcome you in Weimar and invite you to make first contacts and get in the mood for the Bauhaus Summer School while enjoying good music and delicious food afterwards.

We would be delighted if you wore a typical piece of clothing from your home country or clothes in your national colours.

Travel Routes

By plane

If you are travelling by plane, you should fly to Berlin, Frankfurt, Leipzig or Erfurt airports, since they offer the most convenient rail connections to Weimar.

By train

A number of fast and Intercity trains from several directions stop at Weimar station. Weimar can be easily reached by train from Berlin (2 hours 30 mins); Frankfurt (2 hours 30 mins); Leipzig (1 hour); Erfurt (15 mins).

The railway station in Weimar is north of the city centre, which is easily accessible within a few minutes either by bus or on foot.

By car

Weimar is close to the A4 motorway (exit Weimar). This can easily be reached from the A7 motorway (Kirchheimer Dreieck) and the A9 motorway (Hermsdorfer Kreuz).
