Crash-Course: German Bauhaus
German Bauhaus
Even though the famous Bauhaus school only existed for 14 years after its foundation in Weimar in 1919, it holds a key role in the German cultural identity until today: It represents all the liberal and progressive values of the first German republic before the Nazis closed the Bauhaus in 1933, heralding an unprecedented cultural and civilizing decline.
In three afternoon sessions you will learn about the short history of the Weimar Bauhaus, its global reception after 1933 as well as its role in the reconstruction of the German cultural identity after 1945. All the participants are invited to reflect upon the Bauhaus reception on the art, architecture and design history of their home countries.
Dipl. Ing. Ronny Schüler, works both at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and for Klassik Stiftung Weimar and researches the history of the Weimar University as well as its reception.
