1) Why are you researching or studying at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar?
I chose to study at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar because it offers a mix of conceptual and practical approaches to urban design, which suits my interests. I also appreciate the small size of the university, which creates a close, supportive community and allows for direct, personal contact with professors. This makes it easier to exchange ideas, receive feedback, and grow in a more focused learning environment. The university’s attention to real-world urban challenges and sustainable development closely aligns with the kind of work I want to do in the future.
2) What is special about your project? Why is it relevant?
This project envisions how Almere could develop by 2075 while accommodating an additional 15,000 dwellings. We imagined a future where the city faces flooding, driven by climate change and political instability that limits access to essential resources. In response, we developed the concept of a self-sufficient city focused on three key themes: local food production, sustainable energy generation, and effective waste management.
To support our design, we used Grasshopper tools to calculate the required areas for each system. Food production would be integrated into the city through edible streets, agricultural towers, and the inclusion of greenery within buildings. Energy would be generated using tidal power, photovoltaic panels, and energy derived from waste. The project is relevant because it offers practical, adaptable solutions for future urban resilience in the face of climate uncertainty and resource scarcity.
