Mentoring for doctoral candidates and prospective doctoral candidates

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers a STEM-focused mentoring programme especially for female and/or TIN* doctoral candidates and Master students with strong interest in doing a doctorate. MINToring is funded by the Programme for female professors III of the federal government and the federal states. 

With MINToring, the Equal Opportunities Office, in cooperation with the Bauhaus Research School, supports motivated female and TIN* doctoral candidates and prospective doctoral candidates with strong intention to pursue a doctorate in their current qualification project, and their professional as well as academic development and career.

MINToring combines peer mentoring and group mentoring. In group mentoring, female scientists from other universities act as mentors and advise a small group of mentees. In peer mentoring, the mentees support each other, exchange experiences, and carry out activities within the group. In addition, a workshop on empowerment, career planning, or skills training is held for all mentees. The focus of all measures is on promoting individual development and providing advice and support for the planned (academic) career. 

The mentoring programme thrives strongly on the willingness of the mentees to participate in the framework programme, to take part in the peer groups and to help shape the activities within the group.

  • Vertieftes Kennenlernen der Strukturen, Prozesse und Spielregeln des Wissenschaftsbetriebs und anderer Arbeitsbereiche durch die Treffen mit den Mentorinnen und  andere Mentees
  • Informeller Austausch mit Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und Einblicke in andere Fachdisziplinen
  • Orientierung und Unterstützung bei wichtigen Entscheidungsprozessen für die Karriere (z.B. durch Karrierecoachings oder Kollegiale Beratung)
  • Unterstützung beim Aufbau eines beruflichen Netzwerkes
  • Entwicklung von Strategien zur Vereinbarkeit von Wissenschaftskarriere und Familie bzw. Dual-Career-Partnerschaft

Mentoring aims

  1. Support and mentoring of the doctoral process and the start of a doctoral process
  2. (inter-)disciplinary knowledge exchange and promotion of networking across institutional borders
  3. Reflection and active implementation of potentials and strategies for one's own career-specific career steps, especially also in the context of gender-specific hurdles
  4. Identification, optimisation and use of competences and potentials for individual career goals
  5. Clarifying one's own professional goals and needs and first steps towards achieving them

What we offer

  • Introduction to collegial case consultation as a method of peer-mentoring
  • Regular, self-organised meetings of the mentees, among other things for collegial consultation
  • regular meetings with the mentor, in small groups
  • workshop on self-selected topic in the field of empowerment, career planning, or skills training
  • reimbursement of material costs (e.g. trade fair visit,  fee for courses at the Bauhaus Research School)

Participation in mentoring is confirmed by a certificate. The estimated number of hours is app. 6 hours per month.


Schedule of the mentoring programme

January - February | Introductory phase

  • Kick-off meeting incl. introduction into your role as mentee on 27.01.2025 from 12 am to 3 pm
  • Group finding
  • Training on the method of collegial case consultations
  • Planning of meetings, workshops, and events

March - November| Intensification phase

  • Peer group meetings and collegial case consultations
  • Meetings with mentor

December | Final phase

  • final event
  • evaluation

Application procedure

You can submit your application online  until 30 November 2025. The Equal Opportunity Office and the Bauhaus Research School  will decide about the admission to the several mentoring programme afterwards.

MINToring is limited to a maximum of 6 mentees.
