Our University in Numbers

Figures of the year 2024

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar flourishes through its experimental environment, familiar atmosphere and especially through the people, who study, research and work here at the university. To describe the university with mere statistics would not do it justice and for that reason, we will give you a peak at what’s behind these numbers.

4 Faculties

Architecture and Urbanism, Civil Engineering, Media and Art and Design – a unique combination: the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has an unmistakable profile through its mix of faculties and fields of expertise.

42 degree programmes

The university has a comprehensive spectrum of disciplines ranging from subjects that are artistic and creative in nature to those that are scientifically and technically focused. Many of these degree programmes are not found anywhere else in Germany, since they are unique either in their content, the offered structure or in the specialised context.

4,026 students including doctoral students and students on leave of absence

The Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism represents the largest portion of the student body with its 1,194 students, followed by the Faculty of Art and Design with 891 students. There are 783 students at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and 672 students are enrolled at the Faculty of Media. 249 people are involved in expanding their knowledge through the extended education courses, 23 in the German as a Foreign Language course. In addition there are 214 students in interdisciplinary degree programmes.

30 % international students

The special professional profile of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its international and interdisciplinary orientation have been attracting an above average number of students from abroad for many years. The national average is 16.4 %, while at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar it is almost 30 %.

69 professors, 18 junior professors

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers a creative environment where there are many opportunities for self-realisation. Project-oriented work in small groups and close contact to the lecturers are part of everyday life here.

This is also made possible by the approximately 240 research and artistic associates and the over 180 project employees and about 140 non-academics at the faculties.

Circa 290 non-academic and academic employees work in the university administration and services, 15 of whom are apprentices.

more than 200 partner universities, more than 500 student exchanges

In general, a stay abroad is recommended between the 3rd and the 5th semester of the Bachelor’s degree programme and during the 3rd semester of the Master’s degree programme. Some faculties have set up a so-called »mobility window« as part of their study regulations. The fact that the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is so focused on internationalisation is reflected in periodic funding rankings of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD): since 2011 the University ranks one out of the first five positions nationwide for funding amounts and individual scholarships based on the number of students in the 5th and 6th semester.
