Bauhaus-Universität campus in Weimar transformed into open-air stage for zdf@bauhaus

The zdf@bauhaus concert series is coming to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 2019! In the year in which »100 Years of Bauhaus« is being celebrated, the 3sat music programme zdf@bauhaus has decided to return to the art school’s birthplace – exactly where the Bauhaus was founded back in 1919.

The cooperation between the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and ZDF/3sat will kick off on Thursday, 11 July 2019 with an open-air concert starring singer-songwriter Nico Santos (at approx. 7:30 pm) and the Austrian rock band Wanda (at approx. 10 pm), directly in front of the Main Building. The concerts moderated by Jo Schück will be broadcast by 3sat for the first time from 9:45 pm on Saturday, 21 September 2019.

»We are delighted to be able to host the ZDF at our university during its anniversary year. Here, where the Bauhaus was founded, visitors can see how science, technology, art and design today work together to answer contemporary questions,« says Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar of the cooperation.

The two concerts are part of »summaery2019«, the university’s annual show during which students and teachers will present their current discourses, positions, works and research projects on 11–14 July. Entirely in keeping with the Bauhaus concept, students have the opportunity to actively contribute to the events recorded here for the series. Visual communications students will introduce graphic elements into the stage design, for instance.

The first concert will be given by Nico Santos, who shot to fame with his hit song »Rooftop«. He wrote very personal lyrics for his subsequent debut album entitled »Streets Of Gold«. In recent years, Santos has written hits for and with a whole host of German pop stars, including Mark Forster, Helene Fischer, Bushido, Sido, Robin Schulz and Lena Meyer-Landrut.

The Austrian band Wanda will be the second band to take to the stage. Wanda normally plays for huge crowds at sold-out venues, has online download stats in the eight digits and thousands of hours of airplay on the radio and TV. In September, the band will release its long-awaited new album »CIAO!« and will also bring some of its brand-new songs with it to Weimar.

zdf@bauhaus has been broadcast on 3sat since 2011. The concerts of well-known artists and up-and-coming newcomers are complemented with moderated interludes and interviews. Clueso, Cro, BAP, Silbermond and Passenger are among those to have performed in the past.
