Project description

In the winter semester 2019/2020, the first attempt at an interdisciplinary seminar aiming at teaching the basics of design to prospective structural engineers, project managers, project controllers and co. The aim was to create an understanding the complexity of the design process.
In groups of two, students from various bachelor degree courses tried their hand at a design task, namely a market hall in Weimar's city center, complete with housing appartments.
Students were allowed to use model-based software applications as well as paper and pencil - the main focus was on questions regarding organisation, construction, cubature and design as well as the emerging urban situation of the proposed design. Subsequently, the participants of the seminar wrote essays on design proposals by other students from the architecture bachelor degree programme on the same design task, whose presentation, plans and models were observed. Thus, a reflection on ones own work could be achieved through the approach of a third party.
The seminar was supervised by the chairs Design and Complex Building Theory and Construction Engineering and Management and will be offered again in the coming winter semester.
For this year's Summaery insights into selected designs were provided.
