Project description
In the summer semester 2020, we intensified our efforts to digitize and prepare the teaching content of field trips using 360° technology within the framework of the BMBF-funded project ‘AuCity2’ in cooperation with the special fund ‘Digitalisierung in der Lehre’.
With this technology we can, for example, create virtual excursions to places to which normally only a small number of students have access. For example, we have created a virtual “short trip” to Bangladesh that deals with the situation of sanitary facilities in an informal settlement in Khulna. Here students can obtain background information on civil engineering in developing countries from the perspective of engineers, which they can otherwise only obtain locally.
As there are a number of cooperation partners (not only from the Faculty of Civil Engineering) all over the world, this technology offers great potential in the future to bring students closer to life in other regions in a subject-related way. The “short trip” to Bangladesh is available under the following link:

In addition to this desktop application, the use with VR glasses is also possible.
