From digital media to IT security: study Informatics (B.Sc.) at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar
In the era of social distancing, virtual collaboration is becoming increasingly important and Informatics students in Weimar are learning about the latest methods and technologies for tackling the challenges of digitalisation. For example, Weimar’s project-based study programme includes virtual, security aspects, and developing human-computer interfaces for the care sector.
»Our new degree programme model prepares our students with even more thoroughly for the incredibly relevant informatics fields of IT security, big data and digital media applications such as human-computer interaction – research areas in which we have enjoyed top-level expertise and an international network for many years«, explains programme director Prof. Charles Wüthrich.
A solid foundation in mathematics and informatics is vital for specialisation from the fourth semester onwards. Students can then spend an additional year and a half specialising in either »Medieninformatik« (Computer Science and Media) or »Security and Data Science«. The first specialisation tackles all aspects of information processing within the context of digital media, as well as with the conception and development of interactive digital systems. Security and Data Science, on the other hand, specialises in less visual aspects, focusing on the interplay and tension between mass data analysis and privacy.
The Bachelor's degree programme has free admission and prospective students should apply by 30 September 2020. Further information on the six-semester »Informatics« Bachelor's degree programme can be found online. Printed materials and further information on this and other study programmes are available through the Faculty of Media.
On Saturday 4 July 2020 from 10 am to 3 pm, anyone interested can find out more about the degree programme at the DIGITAL Open Campus Day (HIT). Further information is available at www.uni-weimar.de/en/university/studies/discover-the-university/open-campus-day/.
