Dr. Dmitrii Legatiuk wins 2020 W. K. Clifford Prize

The W. K. Clifford Prize jury explained their decision by stating that Dr. Legatiuk's focus »includes mathematics, computer science and engineering, reflecting the broad applicability of Clifford algebras«, and their »potential for solving challenging applied problems«. His progress in the field of »interpolation of monogenic functions, quaternionic operator computation and constructing advanced numerical methods« was particularly impressive. The awards ceremony is accompanied by an invitation to the Clifford Prize Lecture at University College London, where William Kingdon Clifford was the first holder of the Goldsmid Chair. »This opportunity is an outstanding honour for scientific achievements«, Prof. Gürlebeck, Chair of Applied Mathematics, proudly affirms.

Dr. Legatiuk began working with the GRK 1642 research training group in the Faculty of Civil Engineering as a doctoral student. His dissertation »Bewertung der Kopplung zwischen analytischen und numerischen Lösungen für Randwertaufgaben mit Singularitäten« (evaluation of the correlation between analytical and numerical solutions for boundary value problems with singularities), earned him his Doctorate summa cum laude from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Weimar. The dissertation won him the University Prize and, following his doctorate, Dr. Legatiuk took on a post-doc position. In the meantime, he dicides his worktime between the departments of Applied Mathematics  and Computer Science in Civil Engineering, and provides essential support for the Institute of Construction Informatics, Applied Mathematics and Building Physics.

The W. K. Clifford Prize is awarded every three years to outstanding young scientists who, through their research, make outstanding contributions to Clifford analysis and its applications. The prize is traditionally awarded at the ICCA, but in 2020, it will be awarded digitally for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
