New Episode of the BAUHAUS4EU Podcast: What’s happening at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar?
After the forum is before the forum: Where does the BAUHAUS4EU Alliance stand after a year and a half? And what developments are becoming more visible at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and its nine partner universities? In the latest episode of the BAUHAUS4EU Podcast, Dr. Tonia Schmitz, Secretary General of the Alliance, looks back on the BAUHAUS4EU Forum held in Katowice at the end of June 2026 and offers perspectives on the phases of upcoming projects.
The staff members of the Alliance meet for the major B4EU Forum. Following first event, which took place last year in the Portuguese city of Castelo Branco, this year’s meeting was held with our Polish partners in Katowice. While the first year of the project was primarily in a »designing phase«, meaning establishing shared structures and processes, the Alliance is now in the midst of the implementation phase.
As coordinating university, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has a specific responsibility within the Alliance. This meant that the local team in Weimar focused primarily on establishing joint work structures: There was so much to do in the first year »that, unfortunately, we couldn’t be as present at our own institution as we would have liked«, Schmitz admits in the podcast. This will change after the summer break.
For one thing, the first courses developed as part of the BAUHAUS4EU are set to begin then. Instructors at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are participating in five courses: Two Regional Living Labs, which take place over two semesters and implement practice-oriented projects with a regional focus. There are also three European BAUHAUS Courses, which are interdisciplinary courses open to students from all partner universities. These are supplemented by a student-developed course that explores the connection between social cohesion and environmental awareness in Thuringia.
The BAUHAUS4EU at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is also planning an information session for University members already involved in the project as well as anyone interested in learning more about the Alliance and what is has to offer. Further information to follow. The session will focus on, among other aspects, where the project is already making an impact and how many members of the University are currently contributing to it.
