Second exhibition of the University Gallery of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar presents works from the field of artistic research

The title of the exhibition is derived from the name of a principle from quantum physics, the so-called »spooky action at a distance«": two particles at different locations in space can exchange information about their properties without any time delay. Albert Einstein observed this phenomenon, but was never able to prove it, which is why he coined the term »spooky action at a distance«, which does not seem very scientific.

Based on this phenomenon, which has been scientifically researched but still cannot be explained with today's means of physics, the exhibition in the University Gallery shows cross-media artworks that deal with temporal or spatial entanglement in a figurative sense. For the duration of the exhibition, the »nova space« becomes a supposedly ›neutral space‹ or ›sterile laboratory‹ in which the artists' works, like experimental set-ups, each pursue individual questions - artistically and scientifically at the same time. The »spooky long-distance effects« of the works become visible in other places: individual artworks intertwined with the exhibition will spread out in public spaces in Erfurt and Weimar.

»Spooky Actions« is dedicated to the intersection between art and science, between artistic practice and research, as taught in the Ph.D. degree programme »Art and Design« at the Faculty of Art and Design. The exhibition was developed in collaboration of »nova space« with the Ph.D. programme and is part of the programme of the SAR conference.
