Science Day 2019: After the Anniversary, what's next?
After the anniversary, Science Day will be taking place towards the end of the year and, thanks to its special focus, will provide everyone with the opportunity to look back in time. The event programme will start with a guest lecture on »Better Living in Next-Generation Cities« by Prof. Dr. Ursula Eicker, who was appointed to the Canada Excellence Research Chair for Next-Generation Cities at Concordia University Montréal. Concordia University has a close partnership with the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Following the lecture, this year's university prizes will be awarded to students, and up-and-coming young scientists and researchers. In the second part of the event, Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig, Prof. Andreas Mühlenberend, Prof. Dr. Uwe Plank-Wiedenbeck and Prof. Dr. Andreas Ziemann will address the question »Who sets the Agenda in Research?«. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Winfried Speitkamp, the panel will discuss how social trends and political expectations influence current research topics.
As in previous years, ten participants in the young talent competition will also present their exciting research projects, which were previously submitted as posters, in the form of an elevator pitch lasting a maximum of 90 seconds. The interdisciplinary jury and the audience decide on the prizes to be awarded at the end of the event. In addition to the poster exhibition, two further exhibitions will be on display on this day: the doctoral exhibition »Insight to Research« and the exhibition »Projects with the Support of the Start-up Fund«], which is dedicated to exemplary research projects initiated in the past ten years.
