Invitation to the Weimar Controversies 2019: »Is there a Piece of a Future State in every Sliding Window?«

The conference starts on Wednesday 20 November 2019 at 7 pm, with a lecture by Prof. em. Dr. Lucian Hölscher, University of Bochum, on »Utopia and Disappointment. 100 Years of Bauhaus.« in the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar. On the second day, from 10 am to 6 pm, a varied programme of lectures awaits all interested parties in the Neue Weimarhalle congress centre (Flügelsaal 1). Experts from the USA, Australia, Austria, and Germany will be presenting various perspectives on the meaning of utopia. Among others, Prof. Dr. Anja Baumhoff from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hanover will give a lecture on the topic »The ›New Man‹ and the State Bauhaus Weimar. Concepts of Gender and their Relation to the History of Modernism«.

On Friday 22 November 2019, the conference will end with the »Bauhaus Dialogues«: from 10 am to 4 pm, short keynote speeches will stimulate discussions between the participants of the conference.

Since 2016, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar and the Bauhaus Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and Planning of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar have been inviting guests to participate in the »Weimar Controversies«. Every year, together with international guests, they take current topics from the Bauhaus environment as an opportunity to discuss the contemporary relevance of the art and design school. The series of events is sponsored by the Thuringian State Chancellery. Admission to »Weimar Controversies« events is free of charge.
