International Teaching Format Continues to Grow: Five Years of the Bauhaus Spring School

From 12 to 21 March, the Bauhaus Spring School will once again bring students from all over Europe together in Weimar and celebrate its fifth anniversary. Since 2022, the international teaching format at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has been successfully connecting students from European partner universities. The anniversary programme is taking things to the next level: with a total of eleven interdisciplinary courses, there are more options that ever.

The 237 students from 42 countries will arrive in Weimar on 12 March and work on current issues in intensive project formats until 21 March. A programme highlight is the final presentation on 20 March starting at 2 pm on the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar campus. This event is open to the public. Visitors are invited to visit the »Open.Ateliers« to learn about the project results and engage with the participants.

The eleven courses offered this year address pressing social challenges, combining perspectives from architecture and urbanism, art and design, and media and culture.

The »Collective Forms of Agriculture« will have students visit collective agricultural projects and analyse their potential for an ecological and socially responsible society – especially in light of the climate crisis and the increase in right-wing populism.

The »Augmented Present: how the screen swallowed us whole« course looks at how we can make sense of our increasingly hyperreal world. More than just trying to understand how digital screens and media environments influence our perspectives, the course also looks critically at the developments that got us into this situation.

The »The Secret Life of Objects: Archiving and Storytelling through Everyday Things« course has attracted a great deal of interest; The focus here is on everyday objects, exploring their hidden stories and then documenting them in artistic formats.

The »Ecological Aesthetics: How to Engage Aesthetically with Climate Crisis« seminar explores aesthetic approaches to tackling the climate crises. Participants will discuss, among other topics, the question of what role art can play once political processes reach their limits.

Diverse Supporting Programme and Cultural Activities

In addition to the intensive project work, the 2026 Bauhaus Spring School also offers a diverse supporting programme. Excursions to, among other places, Erfurt, Eisenach, Dessau-Roßlau, and Leipzig will give participants the opportunity to learn about the cultural diversity of central Germany. A movie night and karaoke party will offer participants a chance for informal encounters. Additional highlights this year include a macramé workshop and Language Café, promoting intercultural exchange. Students will also be able to visit the Klassik Stiftung Weimar museums and explore the city’s cultural heritage.

About the Bauhaus Spring School
The Bauhaus Spring School is a short-term international blended format (online and in-person) funded by ERASMUS through the »Erasmus Blended Intensive Programme«. The Spring School offers a platform for academic exchange while giving students the chance to establish international networks and expand their creative horizons in a sustainable, long-term way.
