United Against Sexism: Exhibition by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Equal Opportunity Office Opens on 18 November 2025
Sexism comes in many forms – in everyday life, at work, in public space, and in the media. It entails discrimination, devaluation, and oppression of people based on their gender. It affects power relations, opportunities, and social participation. But it is rarely openly discussed. To raise awareness of this this issue and to encourage reflection, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Equal Opportunity Office is presenting the »Gemeinsam gegen Sexismus« travelling exhibition in the foyer of the University Library from 18 November to 14 December 2025. The exhibition will be on display simultaneously at all Thuringian universities in cooperation with the Thüringer Kompetenznetzwerk Gleichstellung.
Developed by the »Gemeinsam gegen Sexismus« alliance and the »Europäischen Akademie für Frauen in Politik und Wirtschaft e.V. (EAF Berlin)«, the exhibition imparts basic knowledge, facts, and figures about sexism, its manifestations and effects. Visitors are encouraged to reflect on their own behaviour and to find ways to actively work against sexism. The exhibition focuses on everyday sexism, sexism in the workplace, in culture and the media, and in public spaces, as well as how it interacts with other forms of discrimination.
The exhibition will open on Tuesday, 18 November 2025 at 11 am with Prof. Peter Benz, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and Tina Meinhardt, the University’s Equal Opportunity Officer. Afterwards, all attendees are invited to socialise at a small reception.
