Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism’s »go4spring« Semester Exhibition
Seven of the projects address rural areas in the Thuringian Forest as part of the »Räume in Transformation Thüringen« (transforming Thuringian spaces) teaching and research project. These projects highlight the potential for development in the region. Examples include suggestions for making the region attractive to young people and increasing civic engagement. Projects also show how urban and open space planning concepts can be used to create places that improve the connection between forests and infrastructure in the future.
The »Apolda« Design Studio is focussing on the industrial-cultural development of the city. The starting point is the landmarked »Oehringsche Villa«. The vacant building reflects the close connection between the knitwear industry and urban development. Students investigate how the building can be preserved and spatially developed in five different scenarios. The project results are presented in drawings, models, posters and photos.
The »High Potential« project has students investigating the concept of open urban landscapes and their significance in urban design. The project looks specifically at »Olympiapark München« space. The focus is on the complex urban topography of today's cities and the spaces where landscape and infrastructure merge. Designs are being developed for a federal swimming and rowing training centre in the Ruhr area that blends harmoniously into its surroundings.
The »Futuro Furioso« design project questions what our world will look like in 1,000 years' time and how our built environment will react to the changes. A cinematic scenario depicts a holistic living space in a city of the future. The space takes into account the use of everyday life, including working, childcare, and entertainment, and the sustainability of the materials used.
The semester exhibition is an important part of academic exchange and provides students with a platform to present their work to the public. »go4spring« is open to students and instructors, as well as any other interested parties. Guests are invited to learn about the creative processes in the Faculty and gain insights into new perspectives on architecture and urbanist topics.
The semester exhibition, which will be taking place for the tenth time, is now a permanent fixture in the university calendar at the end of the lecture period in February. The exhibition is open to the public over a few days and a tour of several campus buildings is also being offered.
