Invitation to Renaming Ceremony: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar University Library Building Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Since it opened in September 2005, the modern building on Steubenstraße has played a central role in academic life at the University. In 2024 alone, 135,437 visited the University Library. In addition to its function as the main University Library building, it also serves as a lecture hall and venue for events such conferences, committee meetings, lecture series, the annual Matriculation Ceremony, and reception events. The lower foyer, outfitted with modular furniture, has become a popular place for students to meet in study groups whenever they want.
Prof. Peter Benz, President of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, will open the ceremony. This will be followed by birthday greetings from a student representative. Prof. Dr. Helmut Heit, Director of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar’s Kolleg Friedrich Nietzsche, will then share an outside perspective on the Library. Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, Director of the University Library, will then offer a retrospective look at the construction and relocation phase of the Library as well as two decades of its successful operation. The presentation will be accompanied by numerous historical photographs from this period.
Afterwards, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will invite guests to a reception in the lower foyer.
