From 20 August to 3 September 2022, 120 participants from almost 50 countries will once again come together on the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar after a lengthy hiatus for the Bauhaus Summer School.

Vom 13. bis 15. September 2023 lädt das F.A. Finger-Institut für Baustoffkunde der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar und die Bauhaus Weiterbildungsakademie Weimar e.V. zur 21. internationalen Baustofftagung (kurz: ibausil) in das Kongresszentrum Neue Weimarhalle ein. Traditionell bilden die Herausforderungen der Baustoffentwicklung und Baustoffanwendung den Schwerpunkt der Vortragsveranstaltungen. Ferner wird eine tagungsbegleitende Ausstellung (Verfahren, Produkte) durchgeführt. Mehr als 50 Architektur- und Urbanistikstudierende entwickelten im städtebaulich-freiraumplanerische Entwurf »C the Unseen« Ideen für das Gebiet des ehemaligen Elektrizitätswerks. Die Arbeiten werden vom 25. Juli bis 1. August im Kulturkaufhaus »TIETZ« in Chemnitz ausgestellt.

On Monday 18 July, the Thuringian minister will stop off in Weimar as part of her summer tour. The extent to which waste water should be analysed all across Germany to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and other pathogens will be discussed during an exchange with Professor Silvio Beier and other partners from the pilot project »SARS-CoV-2 waste water monitoring in Thuringia« (CoMoTH).

In the interdisciplinary project »SHAKIN’ – Sharing subaltern knowledge through international cultural collaborations«, students from the Faculty of Media, Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, and Faculty of Art and Design question the origin of knowledge, including knowledge that does not emanate from an academic environment but rather from practice. The participants also examine knowledge created by other media though – by machines, orally via YouTube or through bodily practices such as dance, for instance. We spoke with course tutor Jun.-Prof. Dr. Eva Krivanec from the Professorship for European Media Culture about the project and the work with the students.

Die diesjährige Jahresschau der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar steht unter dem bewusst doppeldeutigen Titel »Wer weiß? | Who knows?« und fragt danach, wie, wo und von wem Wissen produziert wird. Die Fakultät Medien betreut die summaery2022 federführend, weshalb es nur konsequent ist, dass dort auch das namensgebende Projekt angesiedelt ist. Die Teilnehmenden untersuchten dabei auch Wissen, das über andere Medien entsteht, beispielsweise durch Maschinen, in mündlicher Form über YouTube oder durch Körperpraktiken wie etwa den Tanz. Wir haben mit der Lehrenden Jun.-Prof. Dr. Eva Krivanec, Professur Europäische Medienkultur, gesprochen, sie zum Projekt und zur Arbeit mit den Studierenden befragt.

On Friday, 15 July, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is hosting two key events as part of its summaery2022 annual show. At 12:30–6 pm, visitors are invited to explore fascinating experiments, go on lab tours and view computer simulations along the 300-metre SCIENCE MILE Q3 on Coudraystraße: Are houses made of straw sustainable? And what exactly does plaster have to do with the coal phase-out? And how does a virtual mechanics lab work? Afterwards, the OPEN LAB NIGHT 2022 will begin in Schwanseestraße with virtual reality, game design and 3D engineering. Until 10 pm, visitors can tour the computer science labs and speak with the scientists and students while they enjoy cold beverages, barbecued food and DJ music.

Am Freitag, 15. Juli, lädt die Bauhaus-Universität Weimar im Rahmen ihrer Jahresschau summaery2022 zu gleich zwei großen Veranstaltungen ein. The spectrum ranges from collective phenomena such as climate change, the relationship between nature and technology or the scarcity of resources to topics like anonymity, identity, time, death or loss that affect people in different ways. We spoke to the students Antonia Stella Pfadenhauer and Maximilian Götz as representatives for all course participants and asked them about their work and »knowledge«.

No one on campus, in the lecture halls or in the workrooms really has time to reflect at the moment. Shortly before the end of the semester, all students and teachers are fully focused on finishing off their projects, modules and seminars as best possible, be it with a presentation, exam or exhibition. A lot of knowledge has been produced, developed further and conveyed over the course of the academic year. This is taken up in the »summaery2022« being held at the University from 14 to 17 July, which considers the question of »Wer weiß? | Who knows?«.

Visitors to the summaery annual show of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar are always spoilt for choice. It seems almost impossible to visit all 150 of the projects at the more than 50 locations and to consider each of them in any great depth. We’ve compiled the details of a few of the projects below to provide a few insights and whet your appetite for more.

Das Forschungsprojekt »Geschichte der Bauhausstraße 11«, das an der Professur Archiv- und Literaturforschung der Fakultät Medien angesiedelt und von der Kassenärztlichen Vereinigung Thüringen gefördert wird, lädt am Freitag, 15. Juli 2022, 10.30 bis 14 Uhr, zur Veranstaltung »Die NS-ideologischen Bild- und Symbolwelten im ehemaligen ›Thüringer Ärztehaus‹ und ihr Fortleben in der extremen Rechten« in die Lounge der Universitätsbibliothek ein. Kooperationspartnerin der Veranstaltung ist die Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Thüringen.
