The winners of the On-Hold Music Contest have been announced

We have all had to endure it – the standardized melodies that are meant to convince the captured caller to hold the line. Tormented by a digital version of ›Für Elise‹ or lulled to sleep by some generic relaxation music – this should not be the experience of anyone who calls the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar! That is why for the past couple of years, we have been using fresh piano-compositions from a former student to inspire the waiting ear. In order to offer further acoustic pieces the chance of attaining fame and honour in the world of on-hold callers, the University Communications department decided to host an On-Hold Music Contest.

The best pieces were chosen by a jury and are now easing the time that callers spend waiting ›in the loop‹. The new tracks were launched live during the award ceremony on Wednesday, 11 February 2015.

A total of 20 students and alumni from the faculties of Architecture and Urbanism, Art and Design, and Media submitted a total of 26 tracks. Seven candidates made it to the final round of the two-staged selection process and the jury ultimately chose four winners. The winners’ tracks will become part a three-month rotation within the telephone system.

Winners of the On-Hold Music Contest:

  • Mario Weise, graduate from the Faculty of Media, received 1000 Euro for his contribution »Comfort Noise«.
  • »Nimm noch nicht ab, Elise« by Ulf Pleines and Bert Liebold, alumni and employees at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, also received 1000 Euro prize money.
  • The contribution submitted by Maximilian Zwiener, a student from the Faculty of Media, was awarded 500 Euro.
  • Philip Lucas Bell, a student from the Faculty of Art and Design, also received 500 Euro for his contribution »bitte warten - please hold the line«.
