BAUHAUS4EU Alliance Open Calls: New Teaching Formats Wanted for Students and Instructors

Interdisciplinary teaching, a green campus, or rethinking vacant rural properties: The BAUHAUS4EU Alliance is initiating three open calls for new international teaching formats. They are looking for European BAUHAUS courses, student-led courses, and Regional Living Labs. All formats are open to the ten partner universities’ communities and should improve international networking in studying and teaching.

The European BAUHAUS Courses and the Regional Living Labs are interdisciplinary in nature, the Labs in particular focus on practical implementation. The student-led courses give students the opportunity to develop and lead their own courses.

The deadline for all three calls is 3 June 2026. Entries must be submitted in English.

An international and interdisciplinary course format: European BAUHAUS Courses
for instructors at all BAUHAUS4EU partner universities

Those interested can register for an online information event on 30 March before submitting their applications.

The European BAUHAUS Courses (EBC) are interdisciplinary and challenge-based formats inspired by the »New European Bauhaus« (NEB) principles. They foster lasting academic and practice-oriented cooperation within the Alliance, increase awareness of the topics for international students, and address current societal transformation challenges.

Proposals for courses should address one of the following topics:

  • Climate, energy, mobility
  • Culture, creativity, and inclusive society, or
  • Digital transformation and AI.

Courses can be implemented as Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP), Collaborative Online International Learning Formats (COIL) or Hackathons. BAUHAUS4EU offers financial, organisational, and technical support.

Detailed information, including how to apply, can be found on the BAUHAUS4EU website: https://www.bauhaus4.eu/academics/open-calls-academics/

Fresh Ideas for a Green Campus Student-Led Courses
for students at all BAUHAUS4EU partner universities (Bachelor, Master, doctoral candidates) from all fields of study

With support from academic mentors, students can organise and implement their own international courses—from seminars and lecture series to workshops, project modules, and tutorials – anything is possible. The goal is to create a green inclusive campus and develop international networks. Course concepts should follow the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the New European Bauhaus Compass. An accompanying educational training program is available to support the preparation.

Detailed information, including how to apply, can be found on the BAUHAUS4EU website: https://www.bauhaus4.eu/students/open-calls-students/

Putting Experimental Learning into Practice: Regional Living Labs (RLL)
for instructors at all BAUHAUS4EU partner universities

Those interested can register for an online information event on 27 March.

Regional Living Labs are experimental learning environments that foster interdisciplinary teaching and collaboration between faculties in an effort to appeal to students from different academic backgrounds. The courses are integrated into real regional settings and developed in close contact with local partners. Ideally, RLLs focus on conservation and the reuse of vacant spaces in urban and rural areas.

Each Regional Living Lab is eligible for up to 10,000 euros in funding.

Detailed information, including how to apply, can be found on the BAUHAUS4EU website: https://www.bauhaus4.eu/regional-engagement/open-calls

Questions regarding the open calls can be submitted by e-mail to: bauhaus4eu[at]uni-weimar.de.
