Making Research Results Visible: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Launches Its Own University Bibliography
Since 5 January 2026, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar's University Bibliography has been available online. Following the launch of such platforms at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and Technischen Universität Ilmenau some time ago, a similar system has now been launched at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The University Bibliography serves as a central reference tool for publications by members and affiliates of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. It includes publications from the year 2022 onwards, from conference papers and books to book contributions and articles in academic journals. Dissertations are also included in the Bibliography. The data in the Bibliography is based on metadata from the K10plus Catalogue, the Scopus Databases, and the Digitalen Bibliothek Thüringen (DBT). University members and affiliates can also independently add previously uncatalogued to the portal. In the future, the University Bibliography will be linked to the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Research Information System (FIS) (which is currently under development). This should allow bibliographic references to be directly linked to projects and other research information.
According to Prof. Guido Morgenthal, Vice President for Projects and Research at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, the Bibliography offers a compact overview of current research topics at the University. It therefore plays an important role in the strategic development of research at the University.
At the same time, the Bibliography highlights a fundamental shift in academic publishing, namely that the majority of publications now appear online. From a total of 378 publications recorded in 2025, 363 were published online. Only four percent were print publications.
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has set itself the goal of implementing Thuringia’s strategy for digitalisation in higher education, which means establishing a tracking system for Open Access publications at all Thuringian universities. The figures indicate that Open Access is becoming increasingly important: in 2025, 232 of the 363 (64%) online publications were freely accessible and published through Open Access. »This is where contracts with major academic publishers come into play and make it possible for our scientists to publish in their journals via Open Access«, explains Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz.
