The President's Office regularly organises a »Neuberufenentag« to welcome new professors and to give them the chance to get to know one another, exchange ideas and network. Ten of the 14 newly appointed professors since 2022 accepted the invitation. The day began with a get-to-know-you breakfast hosted by the members of the Presidium in the Bauhaus.Atelier. Following that, the university public was invited to attend a talk by President Prof. Peter Benz on participatory »Struktur- und Entwicklungsplan (STEP)« (structure and development plan). The talk was held in the recently renovated Mensa am Park meeting room. The STEP process began in late summer 2023 and is expected to continue until it is submitted to the Thuringian Wissenchaftsministerium on 30 June 2024.

The next part of the event focussed on the »newcomers«. The main question asked: What will your professorship look like in 2030? In response, the professors presented their scientific research projects along with their interdisciplinary approaches and visions for the future in stimulating talks, which were personal, entertaining, visionary and always included a strong interdisciplinary focus. The midday snack following these fascinating presentations provided the opportunity to discuss the topics in more depth and to engage in informal conversations.
